Ripples are like our actions or presence as part of the whole system. It depends on or are influenced by others. The things we do, the words we say, the looks we share, the moods we transfer, the attitudes we give, all create such ripples in the water (life) we live in. In attempts to make a closer journey between ripples in our life and and the ripples themselves, as one of the characteristics of our ongoing interest on water, we walk with these questions in our minds:
Hudson is so intrigued by the paint. He immediately dips his fingers in the blue paint, intently stares at traces of the paint left on his finger. He carefully observes how Jana and Vivaan work with and move with paint. Hudson mirrors Jana’s and Vivaan’s body language. He creates circles, ripples of his own. Felix enjoys working with paint with his finger. Just like Hudson, he also pays attention to how others may work with the blue paint. He meticulously pays attention to how the tempera paint is creating the circles with him, which gives life to how he sees the ripples move in puddles. The children’s encounter with paint allows the children to recognize the paint’s artistic language. It unravels the paint’s fluidic ability that makes it possible for each of its movements with the children to be reflected. George and Arjun notice something takes place when they blow the water using straws. "It's making more water, Emelia", George exclaims. There are changes in terms of flow and disruption to the wholeness of its surface. Arjun, with his creative mind, takes an initiative to blow some air out of his mouth to figure out how the water reacts this time round. His observation of the air movement at the surface of a water body creates small ripples to form. Crossing the many ways of us expressing our thoughts is our pedagogical strategies for the construction of concepts and the consolidation of understanding. Hudson, in his own terms in interacting with the questions above, engages with ice cubes (and blue food coloring) to observe the movement of the water on a piece of water color paper. He is seen to use his senses to create meaning out of a new experience. He naturally attempts to absorb as much information as possible to constantly building his understanding of the world with energy and curiosity. In our learning experiences, we choose to converse with many languages such as buttons. kitchen utensils and tools, scarves, fabrics, cardboard tubes, mirrors, yarns, among many other possible materials. Elie converses her ideas by using aquamarine sea glass family of colors to reflect the water and its shore. We invite ourselves to revisit our thoughts of ripples by referring to the language of movement. Choices of colorful scarves are offered to resemble the fluidity of water. We move in different directions while moving to the beat. Keeping in our minds about the essence of time, we understand there will be significant changes in a few days to come. With us holding the value of friendship dearly, we take efforts to create a little something as our way to say our relationships lasts the distance. As a farewell lunch for Arjun (last day on November 30, 2022) and George (last day on December 02, 2022), Children & Friends is going to enjoy lunch from Wendy's on Wednesday, November 30 :). Au revoir dear friends … we’re always a home from home!
Kindest, Children & Friends.
