How Do Ideas Move Around?

The things that we have now would be considered impossibilities only a few decades ago. The things we know now were inconceivable to the minds only a few decades ago. Well, isn't this whole thing amazing? It tells us that we have this capacity naturally in us as we grow. The ability to wonder and be curious to keep on creating and experimenting from one thing to become something else. 

Ideas in a child's world are like little adventures, constantly on the move while exploring and shaping our understanding of the world around us. Sensing how ideas flow and hover around us, we come up with a question on how do ideas move around? We encourage ourselves to share ideas in various contexts throughout the day.

For example, during our conversational time about different modes of transport, Elie mentions to Yoyo how she has an idea from her Mom that sky trains have no drivers.

​Another idea Elie asks around, while attaching some paper onto sticks to make a paper umbrella, is how do we make a waterproof umbrella?. To spark us generate ideas, we often start messing around with materials. As we play with LEGO bricks or tinker with craft materials, new ideas emerge. ​We'll sometimes organize a few objects to get us started. 

Learning from friends - we exchange ideas with friends, learn from one another, and build a shared understanding of how things work. Felix and Vivaan have the idea to make a building out of blocks. They are making it taller and bigger while balancing it all together.

Elie is trying to share her idea with us by connecting two cylindrical tubes to make them connected. Elie decides that she will use it as a measuring tool and she says it's also the same height as me. We are matching a measuring tape through the while length of the cylinder and marking the proper measurement it has.

Felix shares his idea about how he wants to be the sun. When asked why he wants to be the sun, he says, I want to light up the world. His idea about the sun starts when he is reading a book about the solar system and the different planets.

Nora excitingly shares her Elsa's castle by building blocks higher and higher. She says, Hannah, look, it's really high! It's Elsa's castle made of ice.

Yoyo is showing how he creates a ghost trap, and his penguin is the first passenger. He places a measuring tape inside a small long cylindrical tube to create a handle and ties the ends of the measuring tape to a fabric basket.

Yoyo, Felix, Fides, and Vivaan share ideas to create a big ghost trap. We use a long cylindrical tube, a gym mat, and a ghost trap to expand our imagination for the adventures ahead of us. This experience supports us to work collaboratively to select an idea to be tested. 

Elie and Yoyo create a waterfall made of wood blocks and explain how the water falls from the holes they created. They create it by balancing the wood blocks from both sides. The journey continues with another experiment from KEVA planks to build a marble run. A lot of cooperation and contribution of ideas indeed!
