Materials are part of our world. We construct meaning as we engage with materials.

​A material’s sensory and aesthetic properties may also transform as we play with it, generating opportunities for further experimentation.

Materials are defined as both tangible and intangible substances including paper, plastic, sound, cardboard, and among many others.​

Supporting creativity

For example, play with wooden blocks, corks, and loose materials may open up learning around arrangement, balance, and height through stacking, placing, and constructing.

​Aesthetic experiences produced through the many ways we experience creative arts. It offers an integral role in encouraging us to imagine and experience the world from new and multiple perspectives.

Creativity has been flagged as a critical process to be supported in the 21st century education systems.
