Making our Ideas Visible

Today, we create our very own bridge using thick popsicle sticks and thin ropes. We work together to weave the sticks through the ropes, connecting one stump to the other. Everyone is involved--holding, threading, and tightening the ropes—making sure our bridge stays strong and steady.
As we build, conversations and teamwork naturally emerge. Friends remind each other to hold the ropes still, pass popsicle sticks carefully, and cheer when the bridge finally stands on its own. It is wonderful to see our excitement and pride when we successfully cross the bridge with toy trucks, testing how strong our creation really is. The trucks roll across smoothly—proof of our careful construction!
This experience supports collaboration, problem-solving, and fine motor while encouraging us to think like engineers. Most importantly, it shows how teamwork and patience can help turn an idea into something real.
We start our day with a festive ornament-making invitation, where we are offered wooden ornaments, cotton, pom-poms, snowflakes, and colourful decorations. Each one of us create our own unique piece, carefully choosing materials, squeezing glue, and layering textures. It is a calm and joyful moment of creativity, with us proudly designing ornaments that reflect our ideas and personalities.
We explore a taped hopscotch and number path on the floor. Before starting, each one of us pick a number that represent how many beanbags we want to carry as we travel through the path. Some challenge ourselves with more beanbags, while others choose just one to focus on our balance. With our beanbags in hand, we hop, step, and drive vehicles through the numbered squares, counting our steps and concentrating on staying inside the paths. This learning experience encourages gross-motor skills, coordination, playful number recognition, and decision-making as we choose our own level of challenge.
To extend the camping theme, we set up a large green tent for another day of play. Inside, we sit around a lantern with our dolls, stuffs, and pretend marshmallows, imagining nighttime camping together. The warm glow creates a calm and cosy environment where we talk quietly, invent stories, and enjoy being close to one another in the tent. It is a wonderful way to support imaginative play, comfort, and connection.
Dhanika shares that when her family goes camping, they roast marshmallows and make smores together.
We introduce a pretend campfire experience. We gather around glowing paper flames and a small grill, roasting pretend marshmallows and cooking toy food. We share stories, offer food to friends, and imagine camping in the forest. This setup inspires rich imaginative play and social connection as we create our own shared storytelling moment.
Dhanika and Ryan are especially engaged, pretending to grill different foods and sharing them with each other so kindly.
In early years, ideas become experience through hands-on, experiential learning, where we actively engage with our environment like outdoor exploration, creative play, and storytelling. This process involves direct participation, followed by reflection to help us connect the experience to our existing knowledge and further develop skills like social interaction and problem-solving.
Kindest,
Children & Friends.
