Look How Far We've Come!

Rebecca's affection for Aarohi reveals itself in countless small gestures. She notices when Aarohi is tired before a word is spoken, offers comfort during difficult moments, and celebrates even her smallest successes with genuine enthusiasm. Whether through a reassuring smile, a thoughtful act of kindness, or simply being present when needed, Rebecca consistently demonstrates a deep and caring concern for Aarohi's happiness and well-being. Her actions reflect not only fondness but also a sincere desire to support and protect someone she cherishes. 

Rebecca continues to demonstrate her caring and compassionate nature through the loving attention she gives to Leanna. She thoughtfully supports and guides her with kindness, showing an emerging understanding of how to respond to younger friends in gentle, respectful, and nurturing ways. Rebecca’s interactions reflect growing empathy, patience, and a developing sense of responsibility as she builds positive relationships within our learning community. 

The culture of kindness and care beginning to spread throughout our learning community. Luka notices that a few small flowers have landed in Leanna’s hair. Without being prompted, he intentionally slows down, gently picks the flowers out of her hair, and continues on his way.

Anthony demonstrates an awareness of his peer's needs by recognizing that Leanna requires some assistance. He continues with his own task independently while remaining mindful of those around him, showing developing social awareness and an understanding that others may need support.

Luka and Ryan approach Fia together and spontaneously gives her a group hug. Their warm interaction demonstrates kindness, friendship, and a sense of belonging as they seek to include and comfort their peer.

This moment reflects our growing social-emotional skills, including empathy. positive relationship-building, and the ability to express care and affection in meaningful ways.

Ryan’s thoughtful action demonstrates growing empathy, awareness of other’s needs, and a willingness to care for Fia. Moments like these reflect how we are learning from one another and contributing to a community where kindness, compassion, and respectful relationships are values and lived out each day.

During our group discussion, Sonam invites friends to think about their wishes and dreams by asking, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Luka eagerly shares, "I want to be a basketball player!" His enthusiastic response highlights his interest in movement, and active play.

Anthony thoughtfully answers, "I want to be a cave expert." His unique choice demonstrates his curiosity about the natural world and his eagerness to explore and discover new things.

Emily responds confidently, "I want to be a parent. I want to be a mommy." Her answer reflects her understanding of family roles and the value she places on caring, nurturing relationships.

Rebecca then says, "I want to be a mommy." Although her response is similar to Emily's, she expresses her own genuine aspiration, reflecting her appreciation for nurturing family's relationships.

Ryan shares when he grows up, he wants to be a kind and caring grown-up. His reflection highlights his developing sense of identity and the values he hopes to carry into the future.

This meaningful conversation provides us with an opportunity to express our ideas, interests, and future aspirations. As we listen respectfully to one another, we practice communication and listening skills, build confidence in sharing our thoughts, and develop an appreciation for the diverse dreams and perspectives within our classroom community. The discussion also encourages self-expression, critical thinking, and a sense of belonging as each one of us contributes our unique voice to the group.

As an extension of our group discussion about what we would like to be when we grow up, we are invited to express our ideas through drawing. This creative learning experience provides a meaningful opportunity for us to represent our future aspirations, communicate our thinking, and share our ideas in a way that reflects our individual interests and imaginations. Through our drawing, we demonstrate our creativity, confidence, and an emerging understanding of ourselves, while strengthening our ability to express thoughts and ideas using a variety of forms.

Anthony approaches with a clear plan and immediately begins drawing independently. He confidently creates a cave and a hammer, explaining that he wants to be a "cave expert." 

As he adds details, he points to a number beside the cave and says, "It's a number that shows you to go inside." Anthony continues to expand on his drawings, explaining, "You need to go under and you need to walk really quiet. And if you step on something, it'll come out."

​Throughout the process, Anthony uses his drawing to communicate a detailed story, demonstrating imaginative thinking, creativity, and an understanding that pictures represent ideas, experiences, and adventures. His confidence in explaining his work also highlights his growing oral language and storytelling skills.

Luka initially finds it challenging to represent his ideas on paper. Before drawing, he uses his body to demonstrate his thinking, acting out how a basketball player runs across the court. This movement appears to help his organize his ideas before beginning his drawing.

Luka then draws a long line, explaining that it represents himself, with a mark at the top for his face. He continues by drawing a large square and says, "A square for the really big kids to run around. They play basketball." 

​Throughout the process, Luka uses both movement and drawing to express his thinking, demonstrating how physical actions can support planning, creativity, and communication. His drawing reflects his strong interest in movements while highlighting his growing ability to represent ideas through symbols, images, and oral language.

Rebecca approaches the drawing with confidence and purpose. As she works, she explains that the person in the middle is "Rebecca" and that she is being "a mommy with a dog." She carefully adds a small figure beside herself and identifies as "Yogi," her dog. Rebecca proudly expresses her idea by saying, "I'm mommy me me!" At the end of the process, she writes her name across the top of her page, demonstrating growing awarenss of print, letter formation, and personal identity.

Through her drawing and explanations, Rebecca communicates a meaningful story, reflecting her understanding of family relationships, nurturing roles, and the care she shows for those who are important to her. Her drawing also highlights her confidence in expressing ideas through both pictures and emerging writing.

Luka demonstrates persistence as he attempts to read three-letter phonetic words. He benefits from gentle prompts to connect individual letter sounds and blend with them into complete words. With continued opportunities to explore phonics through meaningful play and guided practice, he is developing greater confidence in making sound—symbol connections and early reading skills.

Finally! The day of our Graduation Celebration has finally arrived. For us, a graduation celebration is especially meaningful because it helps us feel proud of what we have accomplished. It shows us that learning is something to be celebrated and encourages confidence as we take the next step in our education. The applause, smiles, and words of encouragement remind us that we are supported by people who believe in our potential.

Graduation celebration also creates lasting memories. Looking back at drawings, certificates, and stories from the day reminds graduates how far we have come and inspires us to keep striving toward our dreams. Whether those dreams are to become a cave expert, a basketball player, a parent, or even "a mommy with a skateboard," every aspiration begins with the confidence to imagine a bright future.

Above all, graduation is a celebration of hope. It honours the journey so far while looking ahead with excitement, reminding every graduate that each ending is also the beginning of a new adventure filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and achieve.
