As we learn to create kindness rocks, we discover the value of having something visible and tangible to remind us how important kindness is. These small rocks become meaningful symbols. They help us remember to show care, empathy, and respect in our everyday interactions. However, we also challenge ourselves to work with the rocks in a different way like exploring balance. As we carefully stack and position each rock, we practice patience, focus, and problem-solving, learning that balance requires gentle hands, thoughtful movements, and perseverance. We place the rocks on our heads, shoulders, toes, and other parts of our bodies. At the same time, we make connections between the character of each rock and our own feelings, noticing how balance, movement, and emotions are closely connected. As Rebecca traces the letters with her finger, she shares, "I love you and a lovely day!" The idea of using rocks to explore and express language works beautifully for Rebecca and her friends, supporting us in deciphering and sharing our emotions through meaningful connections. Luka carefully spells the letters one by one, recalling the words he has shared earlier. His rock becomes a symbol of a hug for a friend, expressing care and connection through his creation. Dhanika uses her rock as a way to express both offering help and seeking help, showing her growing awareness of communication, empathy, and connection. Our expression of love and care echo the themes from I Love You Forever by Robert Munsch - showing that love can be felt, shared, and remembered in simple yet powerful ways. Through our bodies, we gently move the rocks back and forth, mirroring the storyline and expressing the nurturing love of a mother as she carries her baby. We learn to sing a song titled H-E-A-R-T, with lyrics say the heart shape says "I love you." This invites Ryan to join in and follow the singing, practicing letter recognition, rhythm, and expressive language while connecting to the message of love and care. Our next learning experience is to scrunch squarish pieces of paper to create small bunches of flowers. Using glue to hold the pieces together, we slowly transform the individual flowers into a collective representation of a heart, showing how small efforts can come together to create something meaningful. We work collaboratively to create heart sun catchers. Using sticky heart shapes, we carefully place cellophane and colored tissue paper, exploring textures, colors, and layering as we work. This process requires patience, focus, and fine motor control, as each one of us makes thoughtful choices about where to place our pieces. Once finishes, we display the hearts on our door, where the light brings them to life. Seeing our names and creations glowing in the sunlight spark pride and a sense of belonging, as each heart represents an important member of our classroom community. Friends continue our creative exploration with a crayon resist activity. Using crayons, we draw on and around heart shapes, pressing firmly and experimenting with lines, shapes, and patterns. When watercolors are brushed over our drawings, friends watch with excitement as the hidden designs appear. This learning experience encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and creative risk-taking, as we discover how different materials interact. It is a beautiful reminder that sometimes art reveals itself slowly, just like our feelings. Outside, friends gathered around our body of water setup, where boats floated and sea animals were added to the water. As they played, children practiced turn-taking, cooperation, and imaginative storytelling. Some friends carefully placed rocks around the water, others moved boats gently, and many explored how the water felt and moved. This sensory experience supported regulation, social interaction, and early scientific thinking, as friends noticed what floated, what sank, and how objects moved through the water. Friends explore scratch painting on heart shapes, using tools to reveal colors underneath the black surface. As we scratch, we draw ourselves and share what we love. This learning experience allows for self-expression and reflection, giving us space to think about our identities and relationships. Each heart tells a story — of family, friends, favorite things, and moments that matter most to us. We gather together to read ABC Mindful Me, using the alphabet to explore emotions, self-awareness, and connection. When we arrive at L for Love, friends eagerly share who and what they love: Emily shares that she loves “Dhanika, Emelia and Hannah” and adds, “I also love my heart.” Luka shares that he loves “Dad and Mom” and says, “I love my heart.” Anthony shares that he loves “Luka” and the two exchange loving “I love you” with each other. Tvisha shares that she loves “Kalyan and Dhanika and Mom and Dad and Gina and George.” Dhanika shares that she “loves everyone.” These moments show how deeply we value our relationships and how love can be expressed in many ways — toward friends, family, caregivers, and even themselves. We then explore T for Thankfulness, reflecting on what makes us feel grateful. Emily shares she is thankful for going outside. Dhanika shares she is thankful for sharing toys. Rebecca shares she is thankful for sharing smiles. Tvisha shares she is thankful for everyone. Anthony shares he is thankful that he is happy. Finally, we explore Z for Zen, practicing mindfulness together. Friends focus on breathing exercises, learning how to slow our bodies, notice our breath, and find calm. This shared moment of stillness supports emotional regulation and helps us recognize ways we can care for our own well-being. To end the week, we sing our own version of BINGO, replacing the letters with HEART. Singing together encourages language development, memory, and joy, while reinforcing the theme of love and connection. “I made a valentine for you The heart shape says I love you H-E-A-R-T (3x) The heart shape says I love you” This week reminds us that love shows up in many forms — through art, play, words, kindness, gratitude, and calm moments together. Our friends demonstrate care for one another, pride in our creations, and a growing understanding of our emotions and relationships. 💕
