How do we build meaningful relationships with others?

As we engage in play and shared experiences, we naturally begin to develop relationships with those around us. Through conversations, cooperative play, problem-solving, and acts of kindness, we learn the skills needed to build friendships and a sense of belonging.
During the beginning of our daily group discussions, Luka enthusiastically invites his peers to join him in shaking the shaker while singing Shake It Like a Milkshake. He encourages everyone to participate together, creating an engaging and inclusive atmosphere where his classmates are eager to join in.
Aarohi keenly collaborates with her friends, waiting for her turns and waiting together as the group transitions to the next part.
Through these shared experiences, Leanna is developing meaningful relationships by including others, fostering cooperation, and creating a sense of belonging within the group.

Their willingness to engage peers demonstrates growing confidence in social interactions and an understanding that learning is enriched through shared participation and collaboration.

To support our understanding of our discussions, we print images of friends hugging one another. As we look at the images together, we share our thoughts about friendship, kindness, and caring for others. The visual prompts encourage meaningful conversations and help us make connections between the images and our own experiences with showing affection, empathy, and respect for our friends.

While looking at an image of herself hugging a friends, Rebecca smiles and says, "I want to give my daddy and my mommy a hug." Her thoughtful comment shows how she is making meaningful connections between our discussions and the loving relationships in her own life, recognizing that hugs are a way to express care and affection for the people who are important to her.

On the other hand, Luka carefully observes an image of himself hugging a friend. When asked, "How do you feel when you give someone a hug?" he thoughtfully responds, "Nice." Luka's simple yet meaningful response shows that he recognizes hugs as a positive way to express kindness, affection, and care for others.
To deepen our understanding of hugs as a way of expressing love and care, we read the story Hug by Jez Alborough. As Rebecca and Anthony follow the journey of the main character, the story encourages thoughtful conversations about the many hugs shared among the different characters throughout the book.
During our way to walk outdoors Luka notices how Leanna likes to hold hands together with the rest of friends. He pauses and ensures he includes Leanna to be part of the holding hands. It is a mindful way of Luka indeed.
Over the past few days, we have been enjoying the beautiful weather by taking walks around our neighbourhood. As we explore our surroundings together, we observe the natural environment with curiosity and wonder. While walking beneath a tree, Fia pauses to look carefully, noticing the branches and leaves swaying gently above.
Aarohi moves with confidence and ease during our outdoor walks, exploring her surroundings freely and joyfully. Her natural way of walking shows her comfort in the environment and her eagerness to participate in our explorations.
The older friends inspire the younger friends to work on challenges. Inspired by their determination and support, the younger friends gather their courage and begin climbing. Although the journey is challenging, we keep going without giving up.
with the help and motivation of friends, we celebrate together, proud of what we have achieved as a team. The experience teaches us that encouragement, perseverance, and teamwork can help overcome even the toughest challenge.
Kindest,
Children & Friends.
